As an artist, I actually specialize in the world of animals. I’m totally self-taught. I have done numerous portraits of show dogs, horses and even people, from the late 70’s until the present. People call me the ~ Painter of Life, Texture and Spirit ~ I paint to achieve visual impact – trying to capture, if you will, the beauty and character of God’s creation… “Our animal friends,” and what exists around them. I also had taken up photography back in the early 70’s. This helped to enrich my original work immensely. Not knowing at the time how serious and addictive I had become to my camera, this link to my art world has won me a number of winning photographs in different contests.  My mediums: Oil, Colored-Pencil, Pastel and Ink. Available also is custom framing, matting and oil painting repairs.

Among my many creations are my Art-toon illustrations titled Sedona The White German Shepherd™ which are known worldwide and have been seen in many publications, annuals and newsletters. I created the Art-toons in 1989. Sedona and her offspring are also well known for the countless photographs taken of them. Eventually those photographs will be made into greeting cards and more. My husband, Joe, and I are originally from Minnesota.  June of 1997 we moved to Cottonwood, Arizona with our four white German Shepherds Sedona, Lobo, Lily and Surfer.  Even though we miss family and friends back in the Midwest, the move has been a positive one.  Many fresh and exciting things have come about since that move.

Joe and I are woodworkers and started our own business titled JoKay’s Woodworking.  The major part of our business is installing all wood and tile flooring.  On the other side of that we restore antiques and build custom furniture, etc.  We owned an antique/refurbishing shop for 17 years back in Red Wing, MN.  I have been a professional artist in the fine arts for 38 years – this has greatly helped me in our business for color/design.  The designation, JoKay’s has been around for 36 years.  Back in the 60’s and into the late 70’s we raised and showed quarter horses under this name.  We had a small ranch just out side of Red Wing, MN, for our horses and German Shepherds.  Always having the desire and interest of living in Arizona someday finally became a reality.

Joe and I have many interests, but our German Shepherds are on top of the list.  In 1991 and 1992 we had 2 very special litters out of U-CD JoKay’s Sedona CD, CGC (OFA) x WGSDCII CH Regalwise O’Leavy Czar, CD (OFA).  In the dog world, those 2 breedings created endless friendships and exciting escapades.  Joe and I love obedience work with our dogs.  I also love agility and the breed ring.  Sedona, in many ways, was a very special episode in my life.  Still to this day, she is remembered and known all over the world for her Art-toon illustrations titled Sedona The White German Shepherd™.  I created the Art-toons in 1989.  Sedona and her offspring are also well known for the countless photographs I have taken of them.  Eventually those photographs will be made into greeting cards and more.
