“We would say that there are various places in which a dog may be buried. Beneath a tree, for beneath such trees they slept in the drowsy summer, gnawed at a favorite bone or lifted their head to challenge some strange intruder. These are good places in life or in death. People may scoff at you, who see no blades of grass bent by his paws, who hear no bark…people who never really lived with a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them and which is well worth knowing. The one best place to bury your dog is in your heart.”
